Development of New Technology Minimizes Noise and Vibration
August 10, 2009

STX Offshore and Shipbuilding successfully delivered two 181,000 DWT class bulk carriers equipped with the company's recently developed low vibration propeller (WCT : Wide Chord Tip) on August 10th.

In general, large ships are equipped with engines of enormous horse-power causing significant vibration and noise. STX Offshore and Shipbuilding reduced this problem significantly with the application of its low vibration propeller.

This new concept low vibration propeller successfully improved propeller performance significantly by greatly reducing the fluctuation of propeller driving pressure, one of the causes of ship vibration, and is currently awaiting a patent.

STX Offshore and Shipbuilding plans to apply this propeller to VLCCs, mega containerships and large LNG carriers.
